Mercian Works is an architecture and design practice based in the East Midlands, working across the UK and in London. Our experience spans one-off homes, bespoke residential extensions and refurbishments, multi-unit housing, heritage, community and commercial projects. We value the opportunities and challenges of both creating new buildings and the careful adaptation and renovation of existing ones.
Our Approach
We aim to balance a friendly and collaborative approach with a rigorous commitment to design and technical detail. Our designs are developed through a variety of mediums including hand sketches, 2D and 3D drawings, card models, collages and visualisations. We strive to make the design process engaging and enjoyable, while honouring the trust of our clients with complete care and dedication to their project.
Design
Because each commission is different, we approach every project from first principles. The outcome is always specific to the project’s context, right for its place and right for the people who will live, work or gather there. Sometimes this means creating something unique and unexpected; but we are not afraid to create simple architecture when that serves the project best.
Above all we are interested in architecture that is well considered and well made. Buildings that are designed for longevity and flexibility in the long term, that bring richness, comfort and pleasure to the people who use them.
